Dedicated to bringing green transport solutions to rural African women and their families.

Powering change

The Mobility for Africa Fund is committed to addressing the mobility crisis in rural Africa and contributing to a rapid inclusive and gender-focused transition to a decarbonised transport system.

The Fund aims to promote shared green mobility solutions, designed and built for rural communities, especially women, that can strengthen local economies, increase agricultural productivity, reduce gender inequality, develop green skills, enable entrepreneurship, and improve access to services, especially health.

Hambas for health

Health outcomes are typically worse in rural Africa compared to urban areas, particularly for women and children. One of the reasons is the lack of accessible, appropriate and affordable transport. The ‘Hamba’ is an innovative transport solution that can address this.

Help us to increase access to timely and quality health services in rural Sub-Saharan Africa.

Hambas for Green skilling

E-Mobility

Help us to build an ecosystem in Zimbabwe to support the transition to green transport, through green skilling rural youth, especially women, to work in the growing EV industry.

Hambas for Rural Women

With the means to undertake more efficient journeys, women can literally become ‘drivers’ of development. Embracing gender transformative approaches is critical to achieve accelerated agricultural growth, shared prosperity, improved livelihoods, and zero hunger.

Let’s put women in the driver’s seat!

Why e-mobility?

Why rural africa? Why now? Infrastructure and transport remain huge obstacles for many parts of Sub-Saharan Africa. Reliable, affordable and efficient transport is scarce in rural communities.

By 2050, we need 60% more food to feed the population. However, many farmers in rural Africa cannot even get their produce to markets. For food security, it’s time to solve the rural mobility crisis!

Transport accounted for 37% of total carbon dioxide emissions in 2021. For climate change mitigation, it’s time to decarbonise the transport sector!

“Beyond doubt e-Mobility in rural areas and reaching those at the very bottom, through shared mobility solutions, is doable, sustainable, and catalytic”

— Shantha Bloemen, CEO and Founder of Mobility for Africa
